What Actually Happens in a Session?
All practitioners run their sessions a little differently but here are some commonalities you should find:
You will sit and chat with the practitioner to uncover and understand your goals and what success is going to look like to you after your sessions. (They may even ask you to fill out an intake form prior to the session - if so, give yourself plenty of time to do this and do it thoughtfully and openly. It will really help enhance your results.)
After you’re able to establish your goals for the session, the practitioner will lead you through a guided meditation that is right for you. This can vary person to person and also based on what the goals are but your practitioner will use techniques that are right for you.
At the conclusion of the session, you will review your experience with the practitioner. There is no right or wrong to experience a session. It will differ for everyone. Some people may remember every word said to them, others may not remember anything. And either way is good. When you are open to the process and belief in the modality, major and lasting change is possible.
How to Prepare for Your Online Hypnotherapy Session
Showing up for yourself is already the biggest step. But there are a few simple things you can do to create a calm, supportive environment that sets the tone for your session.
Give yourself some time and space before and after your session. Don’t book meetings or need to go somewhere immediately after and give yourself a cushion of time before the session starts. Coming in calmly and leaving knowing you have some time and space will help relax the mind and body to fully receive.
Be sure to find a quiet place for your hypnotherapy session, free of distractions and where you can freely talk and express your emotions out loud should you choose.
I always recommend the use of headphones, to fully immerse yourself in the session.
Your device should be set up where it will not be disturbed and where it will not disturb you. You can be seated or laying down, whatever is most comfortable for you, but you do not want to be holding your device. Also, be sure to shut off any alerts or alarms that may go off on your device
Test your equipment and internet connection before the call (sound settings - speaker and microphone) and be sure to have devices charged or plugged in.
Tips to Get the Most Out of the Experience
The shifts from hypnotherapy are often subtle at first - like mental decluttering. To support lasting change, here are a few ideas:
Make sure to work with an experienced and certified practitioner that you feel safe and connected to. If you’re feeling unsure about them or the modality, it’s going to limit your results.
Be open and ready to receive. When you are fully open to the experience and truly understand how powerful a modality this is, your results are limitless!
Ask as many questions as you need leading up to and during your session. Remember, this is your time and investment, not only in money but most importantly, yourself. Do whatever you need to make you feel confident going into the session.
